    Freelance web work available
A man I know is looking to have someone design a website for him. It's to be an ecommerce clothing site that will need six to ten pages, excluding the cart.

If you know anyone capable of a great design that can do fast work, have them contact Matt at fightdirtyclothing@gmail.com. Be prepared to show him examples of previous work. He's not exactly sure what he's looking for so it's going to take some back and forth.

I'm heading on a trip, so any communication should go directly to him. Matt at FightDirtyClothing@gmail.com. Good luck!

I'm off for a motorcycle ride through Death Valley, to the Grand Canyon, and other places I don't even know about yet. Then back home to find a company that needs a great software QA engineer.

    After that, THE WORLD!!!

California - Life, love, and motorcycles. Not in that order.
Life is going well. I've bought a new motorcycle and earlier this week I went surfing for the first time. I expect I'll be taking a motorcycle trip here in the next couple of weeks. I'm not sure where I'll be going, but I think I'm going to start by crossing the Sierra Nevada mountains.

I tend not to post much when life is going well. In fact, I don't think I've posted to my LJ since I moved to California. Which also means I don't think I mentioned that I got married.

Yes. Life is very, very good.

It's good to help a stranger - especially one on a motorcycle
Over the weekend as my wife and I stopped at a garage sale, I noticed a motorcycle parked on the sidewalk a short way away with the owner nearby on his cell phone. As we were leaving, he hung up and started to make another call.

"Honey, let's go by and make sure everything's ok over there." It wasn't.

22 year old Joe had bought the bike three weeks ago from a friend, and it ran great. Twenty minutes earlier it died as he was riding and now it was dead in the water. It ran great as long as it was in neutral.

Within fifteen minutes Erica and I were able to diagnose the problem as a bad kickstand switch, teach Joe about his bike, and "fix" it. Not only did we fix it, we fixed it with scrounged stuff off the side of the road. We used a bent nail to short two wires together and a rubber band to hold it in place. Joe was on his way to the mechanic fifteen minutes later. I felt a bit like a hero.

    It was a good day.

    Wedding vows
I love you Erica, and I want to spend my life with you.

In front of God, our families, and our friends, I offer to be your husband, and ask you to be my wife.

To love and to cherish, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to be with you as long as we both shall live.

    Marriage in two hours
I'm getting married in two hours.

I may or may not be nervous.

    11:30 am
Life keeps on rolling. The wedding is happening two weeks from today. Last night was the bachelor party, and it was a great, late night. The eight year old wanting to shovel my (already clean) driveway at 9:30 am today went unappreciated.

The fantastic job I had over the summer will not continue past the end of this year. They need two high level skills it would take me over a year to become good at, and they can only afford one person. So it looks like I'll be moving to California and finding another job out there.

Speaking of moving to California, I'm looking forward to it. We're planning on spending a couple of days in Yosemite, then on to some hot springs. Honeymoon, here I come. :)

Life's going well. I'll be The University of Michigan graduation commencement speaker next week, then figure out what I'll be doing for Christmas.

Things are really moving. They're going great.

    Busy = no updates
Busy as life is, things are still going well. I had to let some of the balls I was juggling hit the ground and stay there, but that's ok. I'll be able to get done all that I need to get done and still be happy at the end of the day.

Life is still going well. No matter how stressed I am or how much sleep I'm losing, I can still say life is going well.

Flying to California with 18 hours notice
Well, it looks like I'm flying to San Francisco for work tomorrow. I leave at 3:55 pm and return on Sunday. Interestingly enough, it turns out that the ticket 18 hours in advance was only $100 more than one three weeks from now.

    Working from home
Note to self: When setting up an outside workstation because the weather is beautiful, don't set it up near that well-hidden hornets nest. They're bound to notice you before you notice them.

    Oh yes, where was I...
    A quick, caffeine fueled post.
    • Michigan - I'm there.
    • School - It's kicking ass. Done in three months.
    • Work - Did I say school was kicking ass? All school has going for it is academic scholarships, having teachers I don't even know congratulating me in the halls, and having the school fly me to Nevada to speak at an international business conference. School's got nothing on work. Work is going well.
    • Wedding - I'm having one.
    • Moving - Yup.  At the end of the year.  California, here I come!
Life is going very, very well.  This has undoubtedly been the best year of my life.

    I rarely post
I've been here in California a couple of months now. It's going great.

I'm starting a software quality assurance department from scratch. It's been fun. Honestly.

I'm writing because I found something cool. And only [info]alem will really dig it.

I saw this somewhere while motorcycling though the East Bay this weekend.

Hope to see you all when I get back to Michigan. I'll be there from September through December, and then moving to California full-time in January. And no, unfortunately I don't expect to start posting tons between now and then. I'm extremely busy and loving it.

    Lying in bed, sick.

However, I'm lying in bed sick while eating chocolate chip cookie dough and roasted almonds. Even sick isn't all bad.

    Too much - here's a snippet.
To explain why I was dressed up, I showed a coworker this YouTube video on blues dancing, he commented, "Wow. It's like tantric swing dancing." Yes, yes it is.

Today I saw the one day lead-up to the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade. Castro Street was closed off for about six blocks and filled with thousands. I was at a party on the third floor of a building right in the center of it all. Leaning out the window into the street was incredible.

There's so much more to type about. Work is going great. Thanks to the people who gave suggestions or thoughts - it's going well. Things with Erica are fantastic. I'm riding a motorcycle around the city and I love it.

Every day, there's always something around that can cause a person to frown. Lately though, if I wanted to frown, I'd have to look pretty hard.

    Things are damned good.

    Let's go Tigers
I haven't seen a Tigers baseball game in over 20 years. It took me moving to California to get out and see another game.

A childhood friend who moved to Texas 10+ years ago just found me online and found that I was living in SF. He's here for two days, and we're going to take in a baseball game.

    Go Tigers!

    "Hello World"
While interviewing for a job on Friday, I realized would make sense for me to learn the PHP programming language. Later during the office tour, I met a PHP programmer. "PHP?" I said, "I'm going to learn PHP this weekend."

He laughed. "Learning PHP this weeke..." He trailed off. His expression went from realization, surprise, the curious disbelief as he looked at me and said, "Wait, you're serious." The conversation continued for ten minutes as he told me which parts would be most useful. I took notes.

So... I'm teaching myself PHP this weekend. Thankfully I have FTP access to a server that I can use as my sandbox. It's going well.

So far, so good. It's been a good day. Hello World.

[Edit: The best tutorial I've found is PHP 101: PHP for the Absolute Beginner. As a novice, I find it usable and friendly. Thankfully, I don't start until next Monday and I don't need to be fluent, just capable.]

    Flip-face or full-face question - Solved.
Over here I asked if anyone had experience with a flip-face and full-face helmets and could give a comparison. After a lot of reading and beginning to decide, [info]pi3832 came up with a question that clinched my decision.

"And since you'll spend the vast majority of your time inside you helmet with the face flipped down (ie, riding), will you get more use out of the flip, or those other features you'll have to sacrifice to get the flip?" -Pi3832

It's the italics bit that really helped make my decision. I like riding a lot of miles. When I go into a gas station I don't take off my helmet. Sometimes I don't even bother while going into the supermarket. What I do like, is riding.

I think I'm going with a standard full-face helmet. Now I need to try on another three or four helmets other than an RF-1000 to see which fits me *best*.

    Thanks all!

    I'm marrying the right woman.
Yesterday Erica said, "Marriage means loving the person you're with. [Loving them] even more than bacon."

Yes. I'm marrying the right woman.
